KNIGHT’S SWIMMERS UNSTOPPABLE!

2008-2009 is the third season for the Crown Knights JV and Varsity Swim Team and what a season it has been! The Knights continue to uphold their reputation as stiff and strong competition within the GISA conference. This season began in November with a travel meet to Augusta. The Knights competed against schools such as Augusta Preparatory, Westminster of Augusta, Dominion Christian and Augusta Preparatory. The JV girl’s team had a strong start to their season as Meet Champions with a FIRST place finish. The JV boy’s team took second with the Varsity men’s team finishing third and the Varsity women rallied with a fourth place finish.

While the rest of Woodstock was sleeping or brushing their teeth, the Knights continued their early morning 3 day a week training sessions at the Eagle Watch pool overcoming pool maintenance closings and extreme weather conditions. The team pushed through and the hard work paid off at the second meet of the season BIG TIME! The Knights took off for Carrollton, Georgia after being recognized before a gym full of cheering Crown fans at the Crown Winter Sports Pep Rally at the Kings Academy. Pumped up and ready to leave everything they had in the pool, the Knights dominated the competition field with the Varsity men’s and women’s teams sweeping with FIRST PLACE finishes. The JV girl’s team took SECOND and the JV boy’s team took THIRD. With a combined team score of 265 points, the Knight’s returned to Woodstock as MEET CHAMPIONS.

Can it get any better? YOU BET! The Knights attended their third meet of the season, hosted by the Atlanta Girl’s School at the Dynamo Club in Chamblee. This meet was attended by over 500 swimmers from GISA schools. With the exception of the State Championship meet, it is the most competitive meet of the season. The Knights, however, were not intimated and achieved “personal best” times with many Knight’ swimmers competing in events for the first time this season. The Varsity Men and Women had a combined team finish of THIRD place out of 15 GISA schools. The JV Boys and Girls had a SECOND place finish. Quite an accomplishment when you are a team of 30 among 500 swimmers.

Although the Crown Knights are an “exhibition team” in the GISA conference and are not eligible to swim in the State Champion Meet, many of the members of the team have qualifying times and hope to finish out the season with many more. You can check out these fantastic performances, individual , team results and state qualifiers on the “standings” link of the Crown swim team’s web page.

Details:
Practices are held on Mon., Wed., and Thurs. 7:00-8:00 a.m. (subject to change) at the Eagle Watch Pool in Towne Lake. We are participating in the GISA conference. Our team will most likely compete as “exhibition only,” this year, however, this allows our athletes to compete against other private schools such as North Cobb Christian, August Prep, Stratford, Dominion Christian, etc., and experience true high school swimming. We maintain our own team and individual records as part of Crown Athletics.

Most swim meets are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays during the months November, December and January. We plan to attend 1-2 meets per month. Meets are to be determined sometime in October. For more information, please contact Michelle Rutledge. Home: 770-516-8686 Cell: 404-445-7323
