Crown Athletics Marching Band 2008

Welcome to the first official season of the Crown Knights Marching Band Program. God is paving the way for an amazing year and we hope you will consider joining with us!

In previous seasons, Crown Athletics offered a drum line and color guard. This year, we are expanding in our quest to provide homeschool students a full marching band experience with the Knights! The program will include band classes, summer camp, football games and other performances, and promises to be a ton of fun!

ELIGIBILITY: The Crown Athletics marching band program is open to home school students age 12-18. Students must be 12 years old by September 1 and going into grades 7 -12 when school begins in August.

LOCATION: The Knights marching band will be performing during the Crown Athletic football season as well as making appearances at other Crown venues including basketball. Practices are held at The King’s Academy (TKA) in Woodstock, GA. Knights football home games are played at Kell High School in Marietta, and Knights basketball games take place in the gym at TKA.

BAND CLASSES: Mrs. Sandy Lipsky, an instructor with years of musical training and education, will be providing Band Class at The King's Academy in conjunction with this program. The class will be open to 7th-12th grade homeschool students and can be an accredited class for highschoolers. Interested students should have an instrument, be able to read music, and have 2 years playing experience. (For those who are interested in beginning lessons, we will have a list of available teachers.) Following band class each week will be marching rehearsal with band, drumline and color guard.

BAND EQUIPMENT: We are overwhelmed by God's graciousness! This year Atlanta Quest Indoor Drumline will be providing top of the line equipment for our use as well as assisting with our program instruction! Atlanta Quest is an independent performance organization dedicated to youth education through the percussive and musical arts. Instruments available for our use will include snare drums, tenors, bass drums, cymbals, marimbas, vibraphones and tympani. Equipment usage charges will be included in our band program fees.

PROGRAMS: The Marching Band has two components. Both work together and will perform as a unit at Crown Athletic functions.

  • Marching Band

  • Color Guard (including Winter Guard program this year!)

FEES: Marching Band and Color Guard program fees will be announced at the Information Meetings on April 4 and May 1. The fees will cover administrative overhead, secondary insurance, supplies, music, equipment usage, practice t-shirt, game uniforms and year-end awards. Camp fees and band classes are priced separately.

FUNDRAISING: There will be several fundraising opportunities available to offset camp, competition and other costs. We work hard to find creative ways to make our programs as cost effective as possible! Students are encouraged to obtain community sponsors for Crown Athletics to offset their participation fees. We'll share more details at our information meetings regarding these opportunities.

INSTRUCTORS: We are blessed with Christian instructors who have a variety of musical and marching band experience. Feel free to contact them if you have any questions not covered in this flyer. We would welcome anyone who would like to assist with our marching band program to submit an application via the Crown website.
